Game Preview: Coors Belfast Giants v Hull Stingrays...

The Coors Belfast Giants are looking to build on their franchise record 15 game winning streak on Thursday Night at the Odyssey Arena. The Giants are coming off another great winning weekend and are taking on the Hull Stingrays, the same team they beat on Sunday Night in Hull. A win on Thursday will see the Coors Giants go top of the league for the first time this season.

Player/Coach Ed Courtenay appeared very focused on Wednesday morning at training on the task at hand.

"Everyone keeps asking me about Saturday against Coventry but right now the biggest game for us is Thursday Night against Hull. We can't just show up on Thursday and expect to beat them, we have to bring our best game and play the way we have for the last 15 games. I will focus on Coventry on Friday morning, but not before then."

The Giants lead the season series over the Hull Stingrays with 4 wins and a single loss which was a 2-0 defeat way back in October. At that time, the Giants were at the bottom of the league and now they are going for first place. Courtenay added:

"I know we have played a few more games than some of the other teams but first place is first place and that is the position we want to be in. Teams with games in hand have to win those games and if we can win on Thursday we are top of the table. Once we get there, we will do everything we can to stay there."

The Coors Giants have no injuries to report and will be icing a full line-up against the Stingrays on Thursday Night. Face-off is at 7:30pm.

Cliftonville 2-1 Portadown

Chris Scannell
Chris Scannell scored both goals for Cliftonville against Portadown
Cliftonville's dramatic late win at Solitude means they are just one point behind Premier League leaders Linfield with a game in hand.

Portadown had taken the lead on 44 minutes when Gary Liggett scored after home keeper John Connolly had failed to hold Kevin Braniff's low free-kick.

Chris Scannell equalised 62 minutes after Keith O'Hara had fluffed his clearance from Mark Holland's cross.

Scannell scored again in the 90th minute to give Cliftonville victory.

But the Reds, the only undefeated side in the league, were hanging on for the win.

In the 93rd minute Braniff's shot hit a post and from the rebound Cahit Pasa saw his header cleared off the line by Mark Holland. In the first half Gareth McKeown had also hit the woodwork for the Ports after Wesley Boyle's corner eventually fell for him.

Hummingbird 'uses tail to chirp'

Hummingbird 'uses tail to chirp'

Humming bird (Chris Clark and Anand Varma)

Hummingbird in flight

Hummingbird chirp

A species of hummingbird makes a chirping noise with its tail feathers, not its throat, a study using high-speed video has suggested.

The exact source of the noise from male Anna's hummingbirds has been the subject of debate among researchers.

By using specialised footage, a team of US scientists were able to show that male hummingbirds' tail feathers vibrated during high-speed dives.

The findings appear in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B journal.

The loud chirp sound is produced by male Anna's hummingbirds (Calypte anna) as the birds dive towards the ground at speeds that exceed 50mph (80km/h) during their displays for nearby females.

Hitting the right note

The researchers, Chris Clarke and Teresa Feo from the University of California, Berkeley, wrote in their paper that they had gathered evidence that put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the source of the sound.

"Production of the sound was originally attributed to the tail, but a more recent study argued that the sound was vocal.

"We use high-speed video of diving birds, experimental manipulation on wild birds and laboratory experiments on individual feathers to show that the dive sound is made by tail feathers," they explained.

The pair added that while bird vocalisation had received considerable attention, non-vocal or "mechanical" sounds had been "poorly described".

"A diverse array of birds apparently make mechanical sounds with their feathers. Few studies have established that these sounds are non-vocal, and the mechanics of how these sounds are produced remain poorly studied," the scientists wrote.

They said the footage revealed that the trailing vane of the birds' out-tail feathers fluttered rapidly to produce the sound.

The characteristic dive caused a subtle change in the shape of these feathers to produce a loud chirping sound, the researchers noted.

"Many kinds of birds are reported to create aerodynamic sounds with their wings or tail, and this model may explain a wide diversity of non-vocal sounds produced by birds," they concluded.

video for the music on my Space

I have had this song some time on my Space. A friend of mine wrote and recorded it on the melody of an old song by Boudewijn de Groot.
I have created a video clip with the song.

Marchers hold Bloody Sunday rally

Marchers hold Bloody Sunday rally

Bloody Sunday march

Hundreds of people took part in the march through Glasgow

Hundreds of people have taken part in a parade in Glasgow to remember the victims of Bloody Sunday.

The Cairde Na hEireann (Friends of Ireland) procession also attracted more than 100 counter-demonstrators.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said that five arrests had been made for breach of the peace, but there were no major problems.

It remembers 14 civilians who died after being shot by British troops at a march in Londonderry in January 1972.

Saturday's event saw about 350 people make their way from Blythswood Square to the city's Kelvingrove Park, where a rally was held.

Francis McAdam, a spokesman for the marchers, said the police had been wrong to refuse them permission to walk through the city centre.

"We're disappointed that Strathclyde Police have given in to mob rule," he said.

"We've got the right to march peacefully, the same as the Orange Order, the same as anyone.

"Cairde Na hEireann will be applying for that same route again in the future - every other organisation is allowed to march through Glasgow city centre apart from ourselves - and we see that as anti-Irish racism."

Last year's parade went ahead peacefully, but in 2006 protesters tried to clash with those taking part.

Corus Chess - And the winner is....

The last round has been played this sunday, so we now know who is the winner of this years Corus Chess tournament. First here are the results:

Ivantsjuk (UKR) - Van Wely (NL) 1/2 - 1/2
Polgar (HUN) - Aronian (ARM) 1/2 - 1/2
Topalov (BUL) - Adams (ENG) 1/2 - 1/2
Gelfand (PAL) - Eljanov (UKR) 1-0
Leko (HUN) - Mamedjarov (AZ) 1-0
Carlsen (NOR) - Radjabov (AZ) 1/2 - 1/2
Anand (IND) - Kramnik (RUS) 1/2 - 1/2

This leads to the following final standing:

Total 60 draws in 91 games, percentage: 65,9%

So Aronian and Carlsen share the first place and win the 70th edition of the Corus Chess tournament together.
The youthful duo (Carlsen is 17 and Aronian 25) share the first and second prize, a total of 17.000 euros.
Aronian says he had some advantage in the last round against Judit Polgar, but it was all thrown over when he allowed Judit to play 46. f6 after which the draw was secured fast.
Also for Carlsen there was nothing more to get than a draw on sunday. He did what he could against Radjabov, but after 65 moves there was no chance left for a sixth win for the Norwegian teenager.
Maybe this result is a slight surprise, but it is nice to see that the younger players get their place amongst the older "stars".

Stingrays 1 v 4 Giants

Again a copy of the live coverage, so again, read from the bottom up...

22:39 The MOM awards go to Pete Campbell for the Giants and Riddle for Hull.

Thanks to everyone who bothered to watch me try to not mess this up. Special thanks to fish and paddy who are chanting "15 in row" down the phone to me.

22:34 Well that is the game over and I'm just going to wait to see if the guys send me the MOM awards.

22:31 GOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLL GIANTS
Carlyle Lewis secures a 15 in a row winning streak!! Assist coming from Scotty Cameron.

22:31 Just to add to the drama my phone flashes "low battery".

22:29 40 seconds! Surely we have this one.

22:27 2:30 left on the clock!

22:25 Our penalty killing has been great tonight as the Wally pen has been killed.

22:25 Carson is the Ref tonight and is being very picky about the game. Resetting a face off because he was displeased. Not even sure if that's a word, I'm sure my old English teacher won't be reading this anyway.

22:23 AND AGAIN with 6 minutes left Wally goes off for hooking. When will it end?

22:22 Another photo for you lot as it has all gone a little too quiet on my phone.

22:19 A few more penalties for good measure. Shane is off for a delay of game and its 5 on 3 against us.

22:18 Is this the calm before the storm? not much noise coming from the boys in Hull at the moment. It has me on the edge of my seat.

22:15 Yet MORE penalties! This time it is Campbell off for slashing.

22:13 Wardy gets in touch again to comment on Fish

I used to babysit the Fishmeister .....oh my God he could throw up for fun ....lol

22:12 Penalty is over and as that happens Scotty Cameron goes towards the Hull net with a shot, but its saved by Kuds in an open handed glove save.

22:11 Our powerplay leaves alot to be desired as the only word from Paddy is, and I quote.... "RUBBISH"

22:09 Oh The 3rd period is underway and Ladygin gets 2 minutes for interference.

22:09 Well this is all going slightly better than I expected. I thought I would have crashed this website by now and screwed my poor wee laptop, but all seems hunky dory so far.

22:07 Just checking the emails again and I see there is one from a certain Miss McDonald.

How can Fish be sobering up when he has a beer in his hand?! He better not be sick in my spare bedroom tonight!

Fish will be alright, all that refreshing Hull air will sober him up once he gets outside.

22:03 The musical intervals in the most versatile arena seems to be the best of ROCK! No dance tunes there to really give it some Fist in the stand.

22:00 An email from Wardy

Has Fish bought a drink yet??"
I very much doubt it Wardy. I'd go as far as to say he repossessed that pint in his hand from Paddy.

21:56 As we can see from the photo to the right, there is a media tart in the most versatile arena. Fish, who are you saluting?

21:52 Yet another text to my phone from Vickymac that says

What have you got? Not enough O's!!!
Point taken, I was a bit premature there.

21:48 END OF THE 2ND
The shot tally is as follows, 16 on Kuds 14 on Lyle.

They are coming at us hard

Soupy scored against the run of play. this period was theirs if it wasn't for our goal. The shot tally just goes to show how much pressure we have soaked up.

21:44 Keky gets in touch now with a text saying

GIMME ANOTHER O!
O!

Ok Ok people, you put them together and what ya got?

21:42 Last minute of the second period and Boothroyd misses an absolute sitter for the Stingrays. This Hull team have alot of determination still about their game.

21:40 A text from BOTH Vickymac AND Sarah saying the same thing.

Gimme an O!!
O!!

21:37 GOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL GIANTS!!!!
Soupy Pete puts us 3-1 up. Mmmmm Soup tastes good! That sounds so wrong yet so right.

21:35 Another text from Bill00

Gimme ANOTHER E
E!!

21:34 That minute something odd passes quickly and we kill off yet another penalty. Great work so far from our penalty killing players.

21:33 Text from Vickymac

Gimme another E
E

21:32 Kudrna makes a great glove save. 13 seconds left on our power play and Lewis takes a needless tripping penalty. power play to the Stingrays for next 2 minutes less 13 seconds. Maths isn't my strong point people.

21:28 Hull #24 goes off and it's a power play to us with 9 minutes to go!

21:27 Cheeky scampster that Patrick is has just sent a text saying

is FTB here? I've not seen him
I'm sure you lot disagree with our Patrick, as I feel Sutter is a gritty determined player and part of this winning streak set up.

21:25 *Squeek takes a swig of Irn Bru to keep his sugar levels up for all this texting*

21:24 Text from Sarah

Gimme an E
E!

21:23 Lyle is under the cosh at the moment as the Stingrays and having the better chances of the period thus far. However STE-VIE LYLE is up to that challenge. In fact he thrives on it!

21:21 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm peanut M+Ms are the food of choice for the confectionery muncher surely?

21:20 It's going from zone to zone over there with Lewis having another chance 5 minutes into the period. The word text by both guys over there is FRANTIC

21:18 email from Bill00

Gimme a Y

Y!

21:17 Second period is passing in rightly with 4 minutes gone already.

21:16 Just checked the email and to answer you Stephen, Paddy and Fish are texting me from the game.

21:14 And as quick as that, the penalty is killed. Back to full strength

21:14 We start this period without Carlyle, as he is off for 2 minute minor

21:12 Fish sends me a text saying

Start of the next P

I hope he isn't in a toilet being personal.

21:07 And it only takes me a whole period to work out how to put photos up! I'm a slow learner, but I get there in the end.

Feel free to send an email to the updates email address at the top there.

21:03 End of the first period.

End to end stuff, says young Patrick, with lots of chances but no real finishing apparent (well apart from the two goals). By that he means the Giants maybe should have more than 2 goals.

15 shots for the Giants on Kuds and 5 on Lyle, who is apparently doing a few walk abouts in the first period.

20:57 Carlyle then gets called for high sticking with 4 seconds left in the period.

20:56 Lewis goes in hard and hits Rankin, has a chance with the back hand just after that but wasn't able to finish.

20:52 The Fist beats one, beats two.... but the end result is a poor shot. Better luck next time Eddie!

20:49 GOAL for Hull
It's that Little Riddle again who scores a powerplay goal while TJ was in the box.

Paddy comments that Stevie Lyle would probably want that goal back as he really should have saved it.

20:49 TJ off for Hooking (I can see a tv series out of that sentence)

20:47 GOOOOOOALLLLLLLL Giants

Awada drops a pass in the slot and Dutes taps it slightly over a sprawling Ladygin. Another lovely goal

20:42 It's all over in the Blaze match and it finished 4-3 to the Vipas! I'm a happy Squeeker right now I can tell ya!

20:40 Straight after the face off, Awada has an opportunity and rubber meets iron as he hits the post DIIIING.

20:38 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL Giants score

Soupy Pete latches onto an Ed pass. From right circle he squeezes it between pad and post. Great finish says Paddy.

20:35 It's all gone ominously quiet over there... well up until now when fish lets me know that we killed that penalty... PHEW

20:31 All the pressure comes to nothing and a great chance to go ahead has gone. Now its the Giants turn to go a man down. Awada is off for hooking.

20:29 The first penalty come to an end with the score still 0-0. It's all Giants so far. Surely they can make something with our record of great power play goals.

20:28 5 on 3 powerplay to the Giants now, the first time the Stingrays get to touch the puck!

20:27 Ruby gets 2 mins for hooking and the Giants have started this game strong, with the first few minutes, pressuring the Hull net.

20:25 They're off and running folks
The puck is dropped and the game gets under way!

20:20 1 minute to face off and its 4-3 to the Vipazzz COME ON!

20:15 Fish seems to be feeling the effects of the drink but reliably informs me he is "match fit" to support the Giants.

He will be sobering up as the away fan's bar is closed due to a lack of away support. He blames all of us lazy fans for not making it, the cheek!

20:11 Due to the Giants being late onto the ice for warm ups, they delayed getting off it to aid all their players get a full warm up. Even moaning from the crowd and lights being turned down didn't phase them.

Not long now till the puck drops.

20:05 The Giants eventually make it onto the ice and are getting their warm up under way.

Feel free to sent an email at the above email address. I get lonely sometimes ;)

19:56 Already the Hull Stingrays are on the ice warming up. The Giants have arrived in time but as yet are yet to come onto the ice.
With the Blaze having a tough time of it against the (currently 2-2) can they do us a favour tonight in the last period? 19:54 Hello Everyone,
It's Squeek here and if you didn't already know, the face off was delayed to 20:15

Myself, Fish and Paddy will be having a three way textual intercourse session in order to relay whats happening over there in Hull

Belfast Giants 5 - 1 Edinburgh Capitals

This is from a live coverage, read from the bottom up...

21:03 And the Giants MOM goes to Stevie Lyle who stood on his head tonight taking a lot of Caps pressure.

Well that's it from me.. I'm in Hull tomorrow relaying the scores to JimmySqueeker who'll be telling you all about it.

I'm off for a few more beers and to consult the stalking laws to be sure these Elite League Forum folk are well looked after. G'Night.

21:01 As we wait for the MOM announcements... the Vipers have won 4-1 in Bisonland.. shields with an ENG.

Garside gets the Caps MOM

20:59 GAME OVER! And that's 14th win in a row. Superb... it's a comfortable win in the end... and with the Blaze behind in Nottingham the Giants gain a little ground.

20:56 The game is slowly winding down with little action.. while the Giants fans chant "Lets Go Panthers!".. well i know they're winning... but that's a bit much.

20:56 It's a McAslan hat trick and 6-2 to the Panthers in the final period at the NIC, fantastic score for the Giants.

20:54 A lot of action in the Giants zone, but not much coming from it...

Is blondegirl single?a/s/l?
From hot 22year old

Fish...er.. I mean

20:53 The Giants are playing a posession game as the 3rd period winds on...Hemmingway with a clear shot on Lyle but lyle gloves it high.

PADDY I just got a private message from negative 1 and was told by him/her that you are a buddy of Jeff Hutchins. He was and still is my grandsons best ever giants player, I was wondering if you could get his autograph for me and maybe a signed photo .Thanks.
Gerry Allen
Oh aye.. John and I are tight.. haha... I'm getting concerned with this obsession with me... I may need a few restraining orders.

20:49 Lyle comes out of his goal and misses the puck, but Sutter does well having come out of the box, and clears the puck

20:49 Stefishen's shot is pad saved by Lyle. Giants forecheck is working well to stifle the Caps PP.

This is funny...

can you please not plaster my name everywhere just call me bondgirl.
Claire Aiken
Hmmm maybe something you should have thought about before e-mailing in, eh Claire.

20:45 Caps Powerplay Sutter called for a hook.

20:44 GOOOOOALLLL! Ed Courteany pulls off a stunning pass to release Pete Campbell and Campbell makes sure this shot wasn't like the last and makes it 5 to the Giants. Courtenay only arrived on an overnight flight from South Carolina this morning and he has 3 assists and a goal... stunning.

20:42 More pressure from the Caps, they aren't giving up.

Campbell and Sutter link up, but Campbell's shot is easily saved by Peras.

20:40 It's not 5-2 to the Phoenix in Manchester. While the 3rd Steelers goal was scored by Scratch Golfer Dan Tessier.. his first since returning to Sheffield this week.

20:37 Gooooalll! I'll take the blame for that.... Lyle has a nightmare and Wires latches on a pass from Neil Hay and taps into an empty net.

20:36 GOOOOALLLL! A turnover in the Caps zone is picked up by Dutes and he makes it 4-0! Does the Streak continue? I think i might just... 16 minutes to go.

20:35 Seems the Elite League Forum didn't like me mocking them earlier... More strange e-mails...

You have many fans dvd just many of them cant talk due to being heavily sedated and bouncing against padded walls kisses from not your Mrs xxxx
Claire Aiken
Most can spell DWD though Claire.. glad to have you with us.

20:33 Young Ben O'Connor hits a cracker from the slot but it's high. End to end as the Penalty is killed.

20:31 Period on! The Giants start on the PK.

20:30 A shot from the Ed goal... as the players come back onto the ice for the final stanza.

The paddy fan club has been started on facebook....what should we gals that stalk amateur media personalities?pod-bunnies!and *cough* the blaze!
Fish

20:21 Break time for me.. but a quick run round the scores...
Panthers 5 Blaze 2, Bergin got his second and the Panthers 5th!
Steelers 3 Stingrays 0
Bison 1 Vipers 3
Phoenix 4 Devils 1

And it seems I have more fans e-mailing in..

Good game or in DWD language
"Quack quack quack quack quack QUACK!"

Claire Aiken by e-mail
I'm getting quite a following.. it's very flattering.. :)

Right... beer... back soon

20:16 Period Ends! As Lewis returns to the ice.. The Giants skate to Lyle to congratulate him for his efforts.

20:15 Giants keep it tight... Luza shot is flipped away by Lyle. Crane, Christianson and Luza cycle back and forth.

20:13 Ed gives it the Fist... however Shane Johnson goes to the box for Interference and the Caps have a 5 on 3

20:12 GOOOOOAAALLLLL! Watch Out.. Beadles About! Courtenay scores shorthanded! As Carlyle Lewis sits for Cross Checking.

20:11 The fans love it. Assists to Courtenay and Campell again...

More strangeness from this Gerry Allen bloke...

IF he is not at the game where is he has he has not been on the forum
Gerry Allen by e-mail
Huh? Me... I think it's quite obvious I'm busy.... but if you want an autograph.. send me your address and I'll send you a signed photo.

20:07 GOOOOOOAAALLLLLL! Trevor Johnson smack ones from inside the blueline. Peras saw it all the way but it hits the back of the net.2-0

20:07 Wires with another chance but Lyle smothers... alot of end to end action.. Courtenay clear on Peras but the shot is poor.

20:05 That was a great chance for the Caps... a huge chunk of the net to aim at but put it high.

Eagle has been low key. Good effort from awada.
James "Lynchy" Lynch

20:04 Huppe (Boooooo!) pulls another back for the Blaze... 4-2.

Ding! Alot of pressure from the Caps and Cingel hits the crossbar. It's all Caps.

20:03 Awada and Lewis on an odd man rush.. but Awada doesn't pass, shoots high and it is flipped high out of the rink by Peras.

20:02 Caps have the best of the puck so far this period. Wires and Hay playing very well.

20:01 Very strange e-mail....

Hello paddy is DWD at the game
Gerry Allen
Obviously not Gerry.... is dancing man at the game?

20:00 "Young Lewis Christie" on a break but hits the side netting with his shot... one step at a time young lad...

19:59 The Blaze have pulled one back in the NIC, Calder after 11s of the 2nd period.

I feel the time is right, the lucky hat is going on. Here endeth your streak.
Hamish by e-mail

19:57 "The Brits are on fire, if you can say that south of the border." says Nigel Ringland in the webcast commentary, as Morrison, Jamieson and Moran dominate the ice.

19:56 Penalty Killed! As they go 5 on 5 again, the Giants had a poor PP, no real chances there.

19:55 Shorthanded chance by Caps, polechecked away by Shane Johnson. Still no chances for the Giants.

19:54 Thwack! Peras strolls behind his net and is cleaned by Carlyle Lewis, but the Giants can't capitalise... if you pardon the pun.

19:52 Giants PP. Neil Hay is drawn into a slash by Roman Gavalier. First PP for the Giants.

In Edinburgh praying for the caps.Awada does,nt have a chance against stefishen.Go guys we love you.Wish i was there with you and the great belfast fans.
Lynne by e-mail

19:51 A long PK by the Giants, they havent been able to change it up. But the Penalty is Killed. Awada, Johnson and Dutes seen out the whole PK.. they go and sit for a well earned rest.

19:50 3-1 to the Vipers, Shuggy scores in his One thousand and something-th game.

19:50 Cycle by the Caps, and a shot on Lyle is cleared off the line by Dutes when the Caps were sure they scored.

19:49 Capitals Powerplay First penalty of the night goes to Trevor Johnson for interferance. However some think it was Shane Johnson who should have been called.

19:48 Courtenay Campbell and Jamieson link up again but the Caps deflect away

19:46 Doug Christianson shoots high on Lyle but saved. meanwhile Awada looks for revenge on Stefishen for the hit in the 1st period

19:45 Lewis deflection just goes wide.

Dear Patrick,
Your text updates have brightened up my day as i sit in Liverpool.Bless you dear boy, bless you.
Fish

See you tomorrow mate.

19:44 Period is go! While Lobby gives the Vipers the lead in B'stoke. 2-1 to the visitors.

19:43 Let me correct myself... it's 4-1 in Manchester, Birbraer for the Devils.

19:42 Players are out again for the second period

19:42 Finnerty and Legue have given the Steelers a 2-0 lead over the Stingrays in Sheffield, while the Phoenix have got another against the Devils. 4-0 there, Tallari with his second.

Stuck at home decorating rather than making the trek south, but it's good to see my non appearance hasn't caused the team too much undue concern. Great news from Nottingham. By the way Paddy, re: 18:57, Moran played last week against Manchester. Back to the wallpapering...
Jamie Doran by e-mail
I can sympathise with the DIY mate.

19:40 FOUR - NIL To the Panthers.. have the Blaze turned up? McAslan with his second of the night

And from the Giants game..

That period ended with a flurry of shots on Lyle, but he has stood on his head to make save after save tonight. The crowd is loud and cheering but the Caps are playing up hard. I'm not sure we should be one up after that period but i will take it thank you very much.
JimmySqueek
Incidentally, Mr Squeek will be in this seat..(well not this seat, probably in his own house).. tomorrow night doing updates on the game from Hull as I drive down to Yorkshire..

Went to four NHL games over the last 2 weeks. Arenas superb. Hockey really not that great. Very overrated product. Well apart from Brodeur. He was genius.
Davy by text
Controversial opinion of the NHL there mate.. Myself and Miss Mac hope to go to an NY Rangers game in March, it's getting the ticket is the problem.

19:31 Period Over. And the report from MartyMc is "Pretty Even". I'm gonna go get another beer and wait on other reports coming in.

Drop me an e-mail with your thoughts on tonight so far...

19:29 And McAslan makes it 3 to the Panthers... This is a chance for the Giants to gain ground if that holds.

The period is winding down in Dundalk with Sutter and Cameron unable to take advantage of chances.

19:26 Bergin has doubled the Panthers advantage in the NIC. A score that will be welcomed in Dundalk.

In the IceDome Peras is nowhere as Cameron has an open net to hit... and he misses. *sigh*

Vickymac said to stick to my guns so I'm sitting watching the game by text in Northern Mexico.
Davy by Text
Not even I listen to her mate... she'll be pleased to hear someone does...

19:22 Things have spiced up since the goal, that Hit on Awada has got things going in what so far has been a very even game. Despite the goal.

19:20 Stefishen puts Awada on his ass, an handbags ensue between both sets of players.

19:18 Nice pic of the goal from Jamieson, Assists to Campbell and Courtenay as Peter Campbell continues his campaign to obtain the highest PPG of any Giants players ever!

19:15 GOOOOOOAAAALLL! And just as I say that, Jamieson latches on to a pass from Courtenay to open the scoring.

19:14 It's a quick period in Dundalk, both teams playing nice open hockey and Cloutman not having to call very much.

19:12 Tony Hand nets the 3rd in Manchester as the 1st Period winds down... the Devils are having a nightmare at the minute, but have today announced the return of Dion Darling.. they hope it'll change their fortunes.

19:10 Big Paul on his dead fancy iPhone..

Great opening. Indoor fireworks, or pyros to you and me! Crowd in fine voice. Fast paced start. Two stoppages in 5:20 of play!
Both teams very up for it!

Big Paul

19:08 Johan Molin has given the Panthers the lead over the Coventry Blaze at the NIC, meanwhile it's end to end in Dundalk, chances both sides but the netminders coming up strong.

19:06 In Baisingstoke it's 1-1 between the Bison and the Vipers "Nothing special here" says out correspondent.

19:05 Dave Cloutman is the ref by the way. And the Giants are coming back at the caps with a bit of pressure.Dutes and Campbell have big shots but they produce big saves from Peras.

19:04 Ah, I see what they mean... well it's Game On in Dundalk and the Caps open with 3 early chances, all three are pounded away by Stevie Lyle.

19:00 The teams take the ice accompanied by..err.. Sparklers.. according to MartyMc.. attending his first Giants game in Dundalk.

18:59 Brett Clouthier has doubles Manchesters advantage as we await the beginning of the game in Dudalk

18:57 Moran was in the warm up, so we may see his return since that shoulder injury.

A really good turn out, lots of familiar and not so familiar faces. The lights are down an the teams will be on soon
JimmySqueeker from the Arena

18:54 In the early face off the Manchester Phoenix lead the Cardiff devils through a Tallari (Ferrari) goal.

18:52 I guess the Caps will be sticking around at the end for a change as it's more of a drive to get the last HSS back to Stranraer eh?

18:52 Word from Dundalk, delayed Face off... the clock has just started to count down from 15 minutes.

18:45 Ok, I'm now settled at the kitchen table with my laptop, a beer and a packet of crisps... it's all good. Word from Dundalk is the IceDome is filling up very well and the folk are in good voice. there are even a few Caps fans who have braved the border.

18:39 The Caps have lifted themselves off the bottom of the EIHL to the.. err.. 2nd from bottom, but as they showed against the Panthers, on any given day they can batter you. I just hope this isn;t one of those days.

18:38 There are "rumours" (I say rumours... some bloke on the EIHL Forum cagey) that the Giants are to bring in a new player this week. I think this would be bizarre if true, considering we have a winning team. Though if a player wants to walk there's no real other option is there. Any thoughts?

18:36 Well it looks like our roving reporter is talking plenty of shots as the teams warm up for the evenings game.

Any Predictions? Drop me an E-mail

18:33 Well we got an e-mail from Big Paul...

Ay yup! Hello from Mexico! Sitting looking out over the ice and it's looking good. Decent sized crowd here already. An hour before face of and there's a nice feel down here. Here's hoping!
Big Paul

18:32 So lets start, the Capitals make a trip to Dundalk for the third League game the Giants in the Irish Republic,

18:31 So how well did Havant and Waterlooville do eh? Even as a Liverpool fan I was worried. haha

18:30 Goooooooooood Evening everyone.

Windows Live Spaces, how it works...

There are a number of things that are often not clear to people about Windows Live Spaces.
Today I decided to explain a bit more about two of them...

The first of them are the Statistics.
A lot of people think they can see in the statistics who visited their Space.
This is NOT true.
The statistics only show how many pageviews your Space had, which page has been viewed at what time, and a link to where the visitor came from to that particular page.
This link is the tricky part, because often this shows a link to another Space, and then people think the owner of that Space has visited them.
WRONG!

This only means that on the time that someone came from that Space to your Space there was a link on that Space which was clicked and brought a visitor to you.
This can for instance mean that your Space was displayed in the list of updated Spaces and someone who was just visiting the other Space chose to click on this link to watch your Space as well.
Of course the owner of the Space in question can also have clicked on the link on his own Space, but there is no guarantee it is the same person.
The only way you can find out who visited your Space is when they leave a comment and include details on who they are.

Another thing I'd like to be a bit more clear about is the Code of Conduct and Abuse on Spaces.

It is true that the Code of Conduct is not very clear about the limits of what is allowed on Spaces, and because of this a lot of people are receiving warnings or find their Spaces suddenly disabled without having a clue what this is about, because their Space does not contain pornography.

Well, let me first make one thing clear. Not all nudity is pornography, but all nudity is prohibited on Windows Live Spaces.
This includes cartoons, drawings, paintings, sculptures and whatever you can think about, when it is nude, just don't put it on your Space.

When is something nude?
The definion of nude can be hard to give. Here is how it is considered in Windows Live Spaces:
When buttocks, genitalia or the nipples of female breasts are visible it is nudity. This also includes pictures of body-paints, young children having a bath, see through clothing and even normal clothing when for instance the nipples are clearly visible. Specially the pictures of young children are often a cause of misunderstanding when proud parents want to share the pictures of their child(ren) with others, without the intention of doing anything wrong.

Naturally pornography is also not allowed, this includes suggestive text and pictures. So it is not necessary that actual sexual act is visible in pictures to have a Space closed. A picture of two human figures in a position that indicates sexual activity is considered pornography and a reason to disable a Space.

Is nudity and pornography the only abuse?
No, surely not. There are lots of things that are not allowed, some more are racism, copyright violations, harassment, personal identifiable information, other things listed in the Code of Conduct, and anything that is illegal in the country of the owner of the Space (so in some countries particular content can be abuse while it is not in other countries).

Is it ok if I set my permissions so that only I can see my Space?
Sure that is fine, but the same rules apply. The Code of Conduct applies to all Spaces, no matter what permissions you chose.

My Space is disabled, what can I do now?
It is always worth contacting the Spaces abuse department if your Space has been disabled. You can use the Report Abuse link at the bottom of the page for that.
They will look into each case and decide on the level of the violation if it is possible to give you another chance to delete the illegal content from your Space.
If they give you this second chance your Space will be enabled again for a certain amount of time and you will have to delete all illegal content within that time.
If you don't do this it will be disabled again and you will not get a third chance.

I am not sure about something I posted is allowed, how can I find out?
Leave a comment in this post or in my guestbook and I will have a look (of course your Space needs to be Public or you have to give me access, otherwise I can't see what content you mean).

There is something I still don't understand. How can I get more explanation?
First of all, click on the icon with the question mark at the top right, you can find a lot of information about Spaces there.
If your question is also not answered there you can contact Windows Live Spaces support through http://support.live.com. You can also ask questions here, but I will only answer questions about Spaces which are directly related to what I have posted here.

Dedication...

Leigh Jamieson (Photo by J.Squeeker)

“Dedication… Dedication… Dedication that’s what you need, if you want to be the best, and if you want to beat the rest, ooooh, Dedications what you need”

The record breaking Coors Belfast Giants take the club record winning streak down to Dundalk this Saturday to face the Edinburgh Capitals in the IceDome. Ed Courtenay will be hoping that his strong side will pick up another win and another 2 points as they look to strengthen their position toward the top of the EIHL and keep the pressure on the leading Coventry Blaze.

The Giants face the Blaze in the Odyssey next Saturday, however between now and then the Capitals and a trip to the Stingrays lie in wait. Edinburgh are lying second from bottom currently, however their last 3 games have been tight affairs. A home win over the Nottingham Panthers, and two single goal losses to the Steelers (one on Penalty Shots) shows a Capitals side looking to surge to a spot in the playoffs.

Dundalk has been very popular despite its controversial beginnings. The Giants are laying on a bus service for a number of fans, while a full house is expected to cheer the Giants on with the same enthusiasm they did on their last visit there. The atmosphere was electric the night the Phoenix were defeated in the Dundalk rink, and this is the atmosphere Todd Kelman hopes will be recreated on Saturdays visit.

Hull on the other hand are rock bottom of the EIHL, this week they took on the services of Sergi Rublivsky. The European forward returning to the Yorkshire club after a poor stint with the Mobilx Vipers. They are in the midst of a 4 game losing streak their last win being over the Manchester Phoenix on the 6th January. Rick Strachan’s side are looking to see out the league and, like Edinburgh, pick up the points to reach a playoff berth.

The Giants must ensure that they do not slip up as these two teams could prove tricky banana skins in the chase for Coventry. With the Blaze back in form after a slip up a few weeks ago the task of overhauling them is a more arduous task.

But the Giants fans hope that when the Blaze roll into town next weekend the Giants will hold their dedication to the pursuit of the EIHL. Because Dedication’s what you need…if you want to be a record breaker!

Text Updates return this weekend with coverage of Saturday nights game v Edinburgh and an Away game special. I’ll be in Hull for the Giants visit there and your host for the evening will be a man known only by the name “JimmySqueeker”… So keep tuned to KotG for all the coverage of this weekends games.
