Prescriptions will be free of charge in NI by April 2010 |
Plans to abolish prescription charges in Northern Ireland have been announced by NI Health Minister Michael McGimpsey.
The cost of a prescription in NI will be reduced to £3 per prescription in January 2009 and will be free of charge by April 2010.
The charges were abolished in Wales on 1 April 2007 and are due to be abolished in Scotland.
This leaves England as the only country in the UK to retain the charges.
Mr McGimpsey said prepayment certificates would come down in price, from £35.85 to £9 for four months and from £98.70 to £25 for 12 months until prescriptions are free.
Speaking at the Cancer Centre in Belfast City Hospital on Monday, Mr McGimpsey said free prescriptions would be introduced, subject to the agreement of the Executive.
The UUP minister established a cost and benefits review into the abolition of prescription charging last year.
Impact
He said that in reaching his decision he had to "carefully consider the consequences of any change to the current charging regime in Northern Ireland".
"A key consideration for me was the loss of around £13m income each year from prescription charges, and while it is only 3.5% of the total drugs bill, it is still a lot of money," he said.
"After looking closely at the financial position with my officials, I have concluded that the cost of free prescriptions can be found within my existing budget and without impacting on any existing service."
Iris Robinson, DUP, chair of the Health Committee, welcomed the news.
She said she was disappointed that charges for drugs used in cancer treatment were not being abolished immediately.
|
All those patients who have found it very hard over the years to pay for their medication will welcome it
|
Mrs Robinson urged the Executive to consider this, as soon as possible.
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Michelle O'Neill said: "Many people on low incomes were forced to choose between what medicines they could actually afford to get on prescription.
"This obviously had a very adverse affect on the ability to treat illnesses."
The SDLP's Carmel Hanna, also her party's spokesperson on health, similarly welcomed Mr McGimpsey's proposal.
"I believe this announcement to abolish prescription charges for all patients, regardless of their illness or background, is a major step in ensuring people receive the necessary care and treatment at their time of need," she said.
'Great day'
Alliance health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy said: "This is a great day for our health service."
Dr Brian Dunn of the British Medical Association (BMA) Northern Ireland described the health minister's plan to abolish prescription charged as a "very positive step forward".
"All those patients who have found it very hard over the years to pay for their medication will welcome it - as does the BMA," he said.
Heather Monteverde of Macmillan Cancer Support said: "Cancer patients in Northern Ireland have been struggling to pay these unfair charges for too long and it is fantastic news." |

A Cuvier's beaked whale makes a rare foray to the surface
Most articles about scientific subjects start by telling you what people have discovered about something.
This one is mainly about what people have not discovered about something.
"There's not much known about these creatures - where they live, their lifestyle," says Ted Cranford from San Diego State University in California, US.
"In fact, they might be the least understood group of large mammals on Earth."
The creatures in question are beaked whales - rarely seen, elusive, private, yet the subject of some attention in recent years because of the damage that military sonar systems appear to inflict on them.
This summer, the research vessel Song of the Whale is attempting to fill in some of the gaps in our understanding as it sails in and around the Canary Islands, home to several beaked whale species.
Operated by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw), the yacht's main research tools are hydrophones - underwater microphones - that listen for and track the whales' characteristic high-frequency clicks.
And there is much to discover.
Scientist Oliver Boisseau explains how to listen out for beaked whales
"Some species have never been seen alive, and these are animals as big as an elephant," says Vassili Papastavrou, a whale biologist with Ifaw who is on board Song of the Whale.
Just about the most obvious question you could ask about any kind of animal is "how many of them are there?".
Well, we have no idea - for any of the beaked whale species.
So let us take another obvious question: how many species are there?
Nobody knows how many species of beaked whales exist |
Once again, the answer is unclear.
The 2002 reference work Sea Mammals of the World book, written by leading lights in the cetacean academic world, lists 21.
But, it says, Arnoux's beaked whale may actually be the same as Baird's, while DNA analysis suggests the apparently single species of southern bottlenose whale could be two.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in its Red List of Threatened Species, lists 17.
And, to drive the point home, the list says that for 15 of those species, there is simply not enough data to know whether they are threatened with extinction to any degree or not.
Fat bodies
The kind of data gathered by Song of the Whale and other missions around the world gives snapshots of how the animals behave.
But for most beaked whale species, more data has come down the years from examination of dead animals - for some species, corpses are the only source, as they have never been seen alive.
Sea Mammals of the World notes dryly that the northern bottlenose whale is the best understood of all the species because it used to be commercially hunted; and some hunters kept good records of what they caught and what they found.
From a well-preserved corpse - even better, from many corpses - scientists can determine an animal's size, gain clues to its diet and longevity and take DNA samples for analysis.
They can also look at how species have adapted to the environment they live in.
And perhaps the best understood and most fascinating adaptation of beaked whales is in their heads.
Head gear
Ted Cranford used a military scanner to look at the whale's head |
Over millennia of evolution, this family has developed an acoustic echo-location system that uses windpipes to generate sound, fat to focus it and bone structures that help channel reflections back to the ears.
The basic structure has been known for decades; but last year Ted Cranford had a unique opportunity to get a closer view.
A Cuvier's beaked whale washed up on the shores of Oregon. The people who found it managed to get the head quickly frozen; and Dr Cranford persuaded those in charge of Hill Air Force Base nearby to let him put it through a scanner routinely used for examining rocket motors.
The scan, which took several days, showed that the conventional view of sound production was about right.
Clicks are generated when a structure just below the blowhole known as "monkey's lips" smacks together.
That generates a wave radiating spherically outwards, which is transformed into a directionally forward-focussed plane wave as it passes through a fat "melon" - an acoustic lens.
So the sound - too high-pitched for a human to hear - shoots out in front of the whale, and if it hits food, such as a squid, a portion is reflected.
The reflection was thought to travel to the whale's ears, via its lower jawbone. But the scan suggested a more important route is under the bone.
|
Air sacs are perfect acoustic mirrors
|
Top of head for transmitting, bottom of head for receiving; a neat system.
The sound reception part appears to be very complex, involving fat bodies that focus sound and air sacs that reflect it.
"Air sacs are perfect acoustic mirrors," says Ted Cranford.
"The whales need to be able to isolate their ears from each other in order to maintain their directional sense, and one of the best ways to do that is through air sacs."
The use of air sacs is almost incredible when you think that the whales are diving as deep as 2km (1.2 miles), where the pressure equates to 20 megapascals (about 200 atmospheres).
The whales' lungs collapse as they dive, a defensive mechanism against damage from the huge disparity of water pressure outside and air pressure inside; yet somehow the air sacs channelling sound, which appears to be key to the whales' hunting success, stay operational.
First light?
What we know about beaked whales may be fascinating; but it is dwarfed by our ignorance.
Ifaw believes its line of research, concentrating on observing animals in the wild, can answer questions about their behaviour that autopsies of dead whales cannot address.
"This kind of work led to the beginning of our understanding of social structures, such as with the sperm whale," says Mr Papastavrou.
"But then, sperm whales are incredibly loud. Beaked whales use such high frequencies that you can't even hear them without specialised equipment."
As I sit in Song of the Whale's cabin, the specialised equipment is deployed behind the boat, and sounds of beaked whales are being registered.
Scientists now understand the clicks well enough to distinguish between the various species seen here, such as Cuvier's and Blainville's beaked whales and the northern bottlenose whale.
But that is a far cry from what we perhaps ought to know - how they live, where they go, how many there are and what threats they face.
I wonder how much luck we will have filling in the gaps. |
Coors Giants Deliver some Capital Punishment…
Posted on Saturday, September 27th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
The
Coors Belfast Giants fought off a late game surge from the Edinburgh
Capitals to hold on to a 4-3 win at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday
Night. The Capitals actually opened the scoring with 7 minutes left in
the first period when Ross Dalgleish scored to make it 1-0 at 13:15.
George Awada answered back for the Giants less than 2 minutes later
when he finished off a great pass from Paul Deniset to even the
scoreline. The Giants took the lead at 18:26 of the first when Colin
Shields fired in a great pass from Mike Burgoyne to give Belfast the
lead going into the break.
If it hadn’t been for the outstanding play in net for the Capitals
by Michel Robinson, the scoreline could have been even more one-sided.
The Edinburgh netminder faced 21 shots in the first period alone, with
the Giants adding another 15 in the second. They had the edge in shots
but the only goal of the second period came off the stick of Martin
Cingel who evened the scoreline at 37:24.
It took only three minutes into the third period for the Giants to
regain the lead for good when Paul Deniset deflected in a Graeme Walton
slapshot to make it 3-2 before Shane Johnson made it 4-2 when he fired
in a nifty pass from Steve Thornton at 52:34. The Capitals didn’t quit
and at 55:15, they scored one back to make it 4-3 thanks to
player/coach Doug Christiansen, but despite a hectic last two minutes
of Edinburgh pressure, the Giants held on to win 4-3.
Man of the match performances by Robinson in goal for the Capitals
who stopped 48 of 52 shots and by Shane Johnson who was up front on
forward and scored the game winner for the Giants.

Referee: D. Smith Shields leads the way as Giants win in Basingstoke…
Posted on Sunday, September 28th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
The
Coors Belfast Giants wrapped up a perfect weekend with a convincing
road win over the Basingstoke Bison on Sunday night. The Giants
dominated from the start, with Colin Shields scoring a hat-trick on
route to an 8-1 trouncing of the short-handed Bison.
Shields put the Giants up by two in the opening ten minutes of the
game, before Paul Deniset made it 3-0 with the Bison two men down
killing a 5 on 3 powerplay for the Giants. Shane Johnson, with his
second goal in as many games, made it 4-0 with another powerplay goal
to give the Giants a comfortable lead heading into the first period
break.
The Giants continued to dominate play in the second period and again
it was Colin Shields who was served up with a perfect pass by
player/coach Steve Thornton to complete his hat trick. Next was local
legend Mark Morrison who made it 6-0 with a nice slapshot from just
inside the Bison blueline before Basingstoke pulled one back courtesy
of Shaun Thompson off of a well scripted face-off play to make it 6-1.
Despite a couple good chances on the powerplay for Basingstoke,
including just under a minute with a 5-3 advantage, they couldn’t
penetrate the Giants penalty kill, which looked strong all night long.
Coach Thornton pulled Stevie Lyle to give Nathan Craze some well
deserved playing time, and the Bison tested him early but not even a
Brent Hughes breakaway could spoil the night for the young netminder.
Craze looked superb for the remainder of the game, particularly when
the Giants were a man down.
Paul Sample rounded off the scoring in the second period giving the
Giants a 7-1 lead going into the third with the lone goal of the final
period coming from an unlikely source. Defenceman Graeme Walton scored
his first goal of the season with a blistering slapshot to make it 8-1
and complete the scoring for the Giants.
A great road victory against a depleted Bison team that are still
waiting for an import signing and also were playing two players down
due to suspensions handed out by the Elite League on Brad Cruickshank
and Curtiss Patrick during the past week.
A Man of the Match performance for hat trick hero Colin Shields and
three goals from three players scoring their first goals of the season;
Sample, Morrison and Walton. In all, six different scorers in this
textbook win for the first place Giants.

Mulgrew scored two but it was not enough for a Dons victory |
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored a last-gasp winner to take Celtic top of the SPL after a fantastic match with Aberdeen in Glasgow.
The Dutchman scored his first of the season as he swept the home side in to the lead on 14 minutes.
Charlie Mulgrew equalised 12 minutes into the second, then gave the Dons the lead with a great free-kick.
Substitute Scott McDonald headed Celtic level on 78 minutes, before Vennegoor of Hesselink sealed the points.
Both sides started slowly, as they struggled to get going on a gloomy afternoon in Glasgow.
However, an early flicker of light was Georgios Samaras, whose power and pace with the ball at his feet caused problems for Aberdeen all afternoon.
And the Greek was assisted by some poor Dons defending as Celtic opened the scoring.
Samaras drove forward but lost control of the ball, only for Mark Kerr and Richard Foster to get in each other's way in an attempt to clear.
Scott Brown picked up the loose ball, laid it back to Vennegoor of Hesselink who slotted his first goal of the season inside Jamie Langfield's far post.
The goal might have served as a sign for Aberdeen to exercise more caution, but instead was the jolt the visitors needed.
Despite leeking four first-half goals in midweek, Aberdeen went on the offensive, as Zander Diamond's had a header cleared off the line by Marc Crosas.
Lee Miller then chased a through-ball into the Celtic area, but the danger was averted as Boruc raced off his line for the first of several times in the half.
Under-fire Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood was forced to make an early change when Scott Severin left the field injured after only 27 minutes.
On came Charlie Mulgrew, and the former Celtic player's first task was to strike a free-kick, which Borc held with ease.
But Celtic were looking dangerous whenever they advanced, with Shunsuke Nakamura and Vennegoor of Hesselink finding space in the visitors' penalty area.
Lee Mair slid in to take the heat off Nakamura's shot, while Vennegoor of Hesselink's header lacked punch and Langfield caught it easily.
The Dons were having some good spells inside the Celtic half, but were unable to find an end product.
Lee Naylor then tried to bulldoze his way through a line of Aberdeen players on his way towards goal, eventually slicing his shot wide, and Celtic went in a the break a goal to the good.
Langfield was tested early after the re-start, diving low to push a Samaras shot past the post, and then scrambling to reach a Nakamura free-kick.
But the Dons got back level as Mulgrew punished his former club.
Lee Miller flicked on Hodgkiss' cross and the substitute had time and space to drill the ball under Boruc from 14 yards.
And moments later the former Parkhead prodigy steped up to curl a trademark free-kick over the wall and past Boruc as Aberdeen went 2-1 up.
The home side immediately injected more urgency with Glenn Loovens coming close twice from headers.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan then sacrificed Marc Crosas in midfield and threw on striker Scott McDonald.
But Aberdeen retained possession well as Celtic chased the match, and when the home side got the ball they were surrounded by red shirts.
However, a game of inspired substitutions continued, as Aiden McGeady curled in a crossed which McDonald nodded over the line from a yard out.
Aberdeen defended desperately and looked to have secured a priceless point, but at the death Vennegoor of Hesselink bundled the ball over the line.
Darren Mackie had the chance to score an injury time leveller, but put his shot narrowly past the post when one-on-one against Boruc.

26 September Metallica - Interview
We chat to Lars and Kirk about their new album, the choice of Rick Rubin as producer, and ask who’s the better at Guitar Hero. When I still lived in Holland there was a tv show about traffic cops. I liked to watch it, because they showed a lot of serious stupidity from people on the road. Today I found out that the BBC has a program like that as well, although it shows a bit more serious things than the Dutch program usually did. I found an episode online, which is linked here, but before I place the link I wish to advice people to only watch it if you don't mind seeing accidents in which people get seriously hurt. This episode shows two women walking on the motorway, and ... well, they survived pretty well, but the footage is quite shocking. If you are going to watch the nearly 1 hour episode I hope you will "enjoy" it, and of course learn from the stupidity of others. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dmt5w

Steve Thornton's side are top of the Elite League |
The Belfast Giants hope to maintain their position at the top of the Elite League as they face the two sides at the bottom of the league this weekend.
Edinburgh are the visitors to the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night while Steve Thornton's side travel to take on basement side Basingstoke on Sunday.
The Giants won one and lost one of their games at Newcastle last weekend.
Belfast and Nottingham have ten points from six matches, with Manchester on eight points with one game in hand. |
SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Transport authorities in Brazil have caught up with a speed-loving Brazilian driver who clocked up nearly $2 million (1.1 million pounds) in fines, local media reported.
Police intercepted the driver of a 12-year-old car in Sao Paulo at the spot he most frequently committed infractions, the O Globo daily said on Thursday.
For seven years he had been speeding and running red lights but was not arrested earlier because he never registered the car in his own name.
The paper said the car, worth around $6,500, would be auctioned if the driver, unnamed, did not pay the $1.8 million in fines in 90 days.
(Reporting by Peter Murphy; Editing by Sandra Maler) 23 September Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd on Reading's opening goal: "I've never seen anything like it. It's like a UFO landing, a mistake like that.
"I've been to see the referee and, in fairness, he's only going on what the linesman says.
"He's working in a team and, if someone comes in his ear telling him it's a goal, I suppose he's got to give it."
Boothroyd on whether Reading, who knew they had not scored, should have allowed Watford to score an equaliser: "I don't expect players to take things into their own hands. It's not up to them.
"If someone stops you in a car park and gives you a present you don't say no do you?"
Reading boss Steve Coppell on his side's controversial opener: "When the whistle went I wondered what it was for as I could not see a foul.
"Everyone trooped back to the centre and then it became obvious that the referee had given the goal.
"But after speaking to Noel Hunt after the game it became clear that the ball went out of play wide of the goal.
"The game is crying out for video evidence and it has been for a long time.
"It's obvious. Rugby League puts us to shame with how referees can call for replays."
Coppell on whether his side should have allowed Watford to score an equaliser: "Let's
get this clear. The responsibility is not with the opposition to right
a wrong. It is up to the officials to get it as right as they can.
"It's like cricket, do you walk or not if you've nicked one
behind? As a renowned opening batsman I used to walk but it's a
hypothetical question.
"If the referee had come and told me at half-time that they'd cocked it up I don't know whether I would have let them score."
22 September Due to my comments on a photo on the Space of one of my friends a discussion was started, and people in that discussion have been misunderstanding me, so therefore I try to clarify things. I will do this in Dutch, because I am not sure if all the involved parties are able to understand this in English good enough.
18 September Last week (7 days ago) it was 7 years ago that the world was shocked by planes flying in to some buildings. The first one or two days the whole world believed the western (capitalist) world was attacked, but by looking at how the events from that they have been dealt with, it is clear that there are things that are not supposed to be seen. There is so much covered up by the American "intelligence" that it is too obvious that there is something wrong here.
Osdorp Posse recorded a song about this when George W. Bush was visiting Holland in 2005, but because none of their questions has (officialy) been answered yet this is still an important song. For that reason I decided to put it on here.
TOKYO (Reuters) - The world's oldest man celebrated his 113th birthday on Thursday, telling reporters at his home in southern Japan about his joyful life and healthy appetite.
"I'm happy," said Tomoji Tanabe as the local mayor presented him with flowers and a giant tea cup glazed with his name and date of birth. "I'm well. I eat a lot," he added.
Tanabe, recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest living male last year, eats mostly vegetables and believes the key to longevity is not drinking alcohol.
The former civil servant lives with his son, drinks milk every day and has no major illnesses, although he now writes in his diary only once or twice a month. He used to write on a daily basis.
"His favourite food is fried shrimp, but we've heard that he's cut back on oily food," said an official at his hometown of Miyakonojo, about 900 km (560 miles) southwest of Tokyo.
"He's said he wants to live for another 10 years, that he doesn't want to die." The Japanese are among the world's longest-lived people, with the number of those aged 100 or older at a record 36,276, a government report last week showed.
Japanese women have topped the world's longevity ranks for 23 years, while men rank third after Iceland and Hong Kong.
CANBERRA (Reuters) - An Australian pub offering free drinks to women who remove their underwear and display it to patrons and staff will be investigated by alcohol licencing regulators, authorities said on Thursday.
The Saint Hotel in Melbourne has promised a "No Undie Sundie" event over the coming weekend, where woman who remove their underwear and hang it above the bar will receive A$50 ($39) worth of free drinks.
Women who flash their bras and underwear to staff also get free drinks, the pub said, in a promotion that women's protection groups said was "almost an invitation to sexual assault".
"On the face of it, it looks like an inappropriate liquor promotion and we will be investigating with a view to banning it," Liquor Licensing Victoria director Sue Maclellan told the Herald Sun newspaper.
On its website the Saint describes itself as "the home of Melbourne's fashionable set", but pub attracted the ire of regulators in June after hiring a dwarf to pour free liquor down patrons' throats.
Posters for the no undies day event showed singer Britney Spears partially exposed and exiting a car in a scene local Mayor Janet Cribbes said was "bordering on being pornographic".
The pub's managers had gone to ground on Thursday and were not answering phone calls.
OTTAWA (Reuters) - The leader of Canada's Green Party, unveiling an election platform that includes a proposal to legalize marijuana, apologised on Wednesday for not having smoked pot.
"I am not a fan of marijuana use. I have to confess this -- I know all politicians are asked. I've never used marijuana. I apologise," said Elizabeth May, who won extra attention this year by being allowed to join the televised national leaders' debates.
The Greens' platform proposes to allow the sale of marijuana to adults through licensed distribution outlets, generating about C$1 billion (520 million pounds) annually in taxes.
The more high-profile part of the party's platform would impose C$36 billion (18.7 billion pounds) to C$37 billion a year in carbon taxes on fossil fuels as part of a program -- similar to a more modest plan proposed by the Liberal Party -- to shift taxation from income to consumption.
May also said the Green Party would slash military spending and subsidies to industry, and keep the federal budget in surplus.
The Greens poll at about 8 to 10 percent at the moment and could be hard pressed to keep their one seat in Parliament.
- Belfast Giants vs Basingstoke Bison, W 6-3
- Giants Goals: Robins, Johnson, Shields, Howells (2), Deniset
- Bison Goals: Cruikshanks (2), Bowers
The Giants came into this midweek game, moved to
Wednesday night to allow for Sky Sports coverage, on the back of their
best ever start to a season with 4 wins from 4 games played, and plenty
of goals notched up already.
It was the Basingstoke Bison however who started the brighter as
Belfast failed to test Kevin Reither in the Bison goal who only arrived
in the UK today after Visa problems. The Bison looked composed early on
without really threatening, and Stevie Lyle had to be alert to turn away a couple of decent chances.
After the Giants killed off an early penalty, referee Nigel Boniface
soon gave the home side a power play chance, and continuing to show how
lethal it has been in the early going, Bobby Robins fired home a great shot from a tight angle at 4.54 to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.
Despite then having the better of the play, it took until 16.41 of the period when Shane Johnson
found himself all alone in the slot and with a fake shot then big slap
shot he beat Reiter from 20 feet out to make it 2-0, which was how the
period ended. The Giants continued to pressure in the second but couldn't find a
way past Reiter who was facing a lot of rubber - 16 shots in the first
period. However despite managing to turn one of the many shots away, Colin Shields was in prime position after 25.08 to force a rebound under Reiter on the backhand to make it 3-0.
The impressive Graeme Walton
blotted his book when taking a needless interference call which allowed
the Bison to pull one back soon after, Brad Cruickshank taking
advantage and sneaking the puck past Stevie Lyle despite his stacked
pad save attempt to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The lethal Giants power play came to the party once more, when Tyler Howells
(pictured) opened his goal account for the Giants with a somewhat
fortunate goal 34.24 into the game. His big slapshot was not dealt with
well at all by debutant Reiter who let it slip under his right pad - a
shot he really should have saved and a surprise to Howells who barely
celebrated. And from the re-start face off, the Giants added another
goal just 21 seconds later when Paul Deniset took George Awada's pass and made it 5-1 to end the second period.
The Giants came out flat for the start of the 3rd, perhaps thinking
the game was won and were kicked back to life by an early double strike
by the Bison. First Ross Bowers somehow snuck one home past Stevie Lyle
from a very acute angle only 1.26 into the period and Brad Cruikshank
added his second 40 seconds later to cut the deficit to just 5-3 and
swing the momentum the way of the Bison with still a long 17 minutes to
play.
Any worries the small but vocal home crowd may have had were quickly
dispelled as the Giants picked up the tempo again . First Bobby Robins
had the puck in the net but the goal was washed out due to the keeper
having made the initial save with his face mask. Brad Cruickshank's
reaction to Robins playing a rebound after the whistle was not the most
friendly exchange of views of the evening and resulted in 2 minutes for
roughing. Once more the Giants went to the power play and once more the
PP unit was successful. Colin Shields found Tyler Howells who unleashed
another shot from the blue line and this time there was no doubt as the
puck went through a well worked screen provided by George Awada and
found the top corner to make it 6-3 and a fistful of wins from the
Giants to start the season. 15 September It's time for a lot of news again from the Windows Live front. A lot of products will see updates, new products are launched or new versions of products are released. The probably most popular product, Windows Live Messenger will see the release of a new (Beta) version soon. This will have a number of new features that you as a user have been asking for. More information about this will follow as soon as I have it available. A completely new thing that is directly related to Windows Live Messenger are the Windows Live Agents. This are Bots that you can add as Messenger contact, and that offer different functionality, based on which Agent you select. For more information about this you can now visit http://agents.live.com. Windows Live Hotmail is being updated. For more information about this visit http://www.windowslive-hotmail.com/comingsoon.
A new product soon to arrive (for Windows Vista users only) is Windows Live Movie Maker. A programm that enables you to make movies from your own photos or videos and with one click publish them on the internet or save them to your computer or a DVD. An update for Windows Live PhotoGallery will also be available soon. I don't expect too much new features there, but some features will change significantly. Further news about the last two will be posted once available. Windows Live Spaces has seen one change today, that is the dissappearing of the Blog printing service. More information about this can be found on http://thespacecraft.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!8AA773FE0A12B9E3!46433.entry, which also explains a good alternative. But don't be afraid, Windows Live Spaces is not standing still and also further updates in Spaces can be expected in the not too distant future. Also for this I will add more information as soon as it is available. And thought this was all? No, there is more news to be expected soon. I will update once I have found further information
